Raising the Bar with Jack and Jill Financial Workshop for High School Students
Student leaders gathered on February 3, 2018, at Oakland University’s Oakland Center for a Leadership Day with the Oakland County Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. The day was titled, “Raising the Bar: Fuel our Future,” and it was designed to promote leadership skills and provide students with the tools to prepare for life post-graduation. The day included workshops on topics such as managing finances, communication and public speaking, crisis management, and tours of the campus residence halls.
The Credit Union participated in this event by providing financial management workshops covering banking basics and credit education to two groups of high school students. Ian, a financial educator for the Credit Union, conducted an engaging presentation with tips for building and maintaining positive credit, handling financial accounts, and saving money for the future.
“It was great to work with a large group of student leaders to help prepare them for their next steps,” said Ian. “The students asked a lot of really great questions. The workshop was filled with practical information that students are able to immediately apply to their financial habits. Some students were ready to go home and pull their credit report right away!”
