OU Credit Union Supports Local COVID-19 Relief Initiative
The Michigander way of life has drastically changed since its first confirmed case of COVID-19 in mid-March. Households are adapting to a new normal and learning to redefine many aspects of their lives, including their idea of a hero. A hero was once someone who wore a cape. Now they wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect themselves and those around them. Having the necessary PPE is the concern these heroes are facing today. That is why Oakland University Credit Union is taking initiative to help in their fight.
OU Credit Union is proud to support a local COVID-19 relief initiative aimed at manufacturing 30,000 face shields in 30 days. The initiative began as a Facebook group from Oakland County dedicated to providing frontline workers necessary face shields, an important component of PPE. Face shields serve to create a barrier between potential coronavirus particles and frontline workers, specifically medical professionals.
Among the group’s members is Tom Daguanno, who made use of the Baldwin Public Library Idea Lab’s 3D printers to print the plastic headband piece of the face shields. Acetate sheets, also known as overhead transparency sheets, were used for the plastic shield component. The Credit Union’s funds have helped purchase material required for the face shields.
“For anyone who still wants to get involved, it’s not too late. If you can’t afford to donate money or time, just doing your part and staying home is enough to help us get back to normal,” said Daguanno.
The face shields will be distributed across Michigan based on need, with a particular focus in Oakland County, due to the number of cases. The Baldwin Public Library will continue to offer aid assistance through their non-profit, Baldwin Public Library Trust, in which funds for the initiative can be donated.
Baldwin Public Library Trust has already received individual donations of $2,552.Individuals are able to donate hereand all contributions are tax deductible.
OU Credit Union is proud to support this local initiative and is committed to standing together while apart.
