International Credit Union Day has been recognized every third Thursday of October since 1948. During this time, credit unions recognize the importance of the credit union movement and celebrate it in various ways. International Credit Union Day has become known for its festivities including fundraisers, contests, parades, and more.

This year, International Credit Union Day lands on October 20, 2022.

What is the Credit Union Movement?

Credit unions were first developed with the mission to provide a better quality of life to communities by providing a place for people to manage their finances in the best conditions possible. The credit union movement was then developed to move toward universal financial education, literacy, and stability. Today, credit unions continue to strive for more accessible financial services and put the needs of their members, community, and employees above anything else.

How MSUFCU Celebrates International CU Day

This year, OU Credit Union is celebrating Credit Union Day throughout the entire week of October 17 – 21. The main theme of the week is empower. This is because credit unions value the empowerment of their communities and help assist them in becoming confident in their finances.

At OU Credit Union, we strive to empower our members, employees, community, and partners in a variety of ways. Take a look at how OU Credit Union has been celebrating and empowering their community throughout the week on OU Credit Union’s platforms, including social media!
