Children’s Healing Center is a safe haven for kids ages 0 to 26, and their families, to unwind from the stress of a complex medical diagnosis and have fun. CHC provides essential opportunities for recreation, education, and social interaction for the whole family. Their goal is to create a safe space for kids and their siblings to express themselves, interact with others, and feel a sense of belonging.

Children’s Healing Center serves a diverse population of kids with medically complex conditions that result in weakened immune systems. Kids, siblings, parents, staff, and volunteers are invited to join in many group activities and scheduled classes to give the kids an opportunity to move, learn, and socialize in a safe environment. Additionally, while the kids are trying new games and making friends, parents can connect and share their experiences with one another.

The facilities have been purposely designed with hospital-grade features, such as a HEPA-like filtration system, positive pressurization, water filtration, and a strict cleaning regimen to create a germ-free zone for kids to play.

“Children’s Healing Center is the nation’s only recreational facility for kids with weak immune systems and their families,” said Children’s Healing Center Associate Director, Melissa Block. “The Desk Drawer Fund’s donation helps us maintain our germ-free environment so our families can come play and be happy in a safe haven of refuge.”
