How to Beat the Heat with Warm Weather Savings Tips

Warmer weather is on the way, which typically means an increase in your energy bill as a result of trying to cool your home. We know that this can take a toll on your budget, so we’ve compiled a few ways to keep your energy bill low and hopefully leave more money for fun things you actually want to do this summer!

Turn up, or completely turn off, your air conditioner. Depending on a number of different factors, like what part of the country you live in, what type of HVAC system you have, or even how old your home is, you might opt for one over the other. It probably isn’t a huge surprise that the less you run your air conditioning unit, the less energy you use and subsequently, the less you’ll pay on your energy bill.

When it starts to warm up, turn off the AC and open the windows! The breeze coming in from outside will help cool your house. If you need a little extra cooling, switch on your ceiling fan and be sure to run the fan counter-clockwise to help cool your home more efficiently.

If you still can’t bare the increased temps, consider keeping the AC on, but turning it up a few degrees. If you opt for this option, you might consider investing in a programmable thermostat. Sure, the cost up front might be a bit more than a regular thermostat, but by setting the temperature to adjust throughout the day based on the times you are home and your daily habits, you’ll notice increased savings on your energy bill.

Additionally, consider drawing your curtains or blinds where the sun beams in. You’d be surprised how much cooler your house will stay with that small action.

Lastly, if you’re looking for extra ways to save on your energy bill, consider letting your laundry dry outside. Whether you already have a clothes line or need to purchase one, this is a great option for being more budget friendly, since you will be running your dryer less. Plus, it will allow you to spend a little more time outside and get moving in the process.
