Credit Union Employees Raise $170,267 for Charity Donating to Five Organizations
The Credit Union understands that strong and successful communities are created and nurtured with support from community members and businesses alike. Each year, employees embark on a charitable giving campaign, dedicated to giving back to the community and creating opportunities for all to succeed. In 2017, employees raised $170,267 to donate to five charities.
The five charities were selected by employees at the beginning of the year and all received equal portions of the total amount raised.
Many Hands – Education and Outreach
Many Hands fights hunger among children in Ingham County elementary schools, preparing “Weekend Survival Kits” to provide nutritious meals during non-school hours, specifically during the weekends.
Capital Area Humane Society – Environment and Animals
The Capital Area Humane Society shelters homeless animals, fights animal cruelty and neglect, and offers many programs to help families provide for their animals, such as discounted vet services and an animal food bank.
The Firecracker Foundation – Health and Human Services
The Firecracker Foundation provides child survivors of sexual trauma and their families with holistic healing services: individual mental health therapy, trauma-sensitive yoga therapy, and caretaker support groups. Therapeutic services are provided at no cost to families who cannot afford care elsewhere.
Stiggy’s Dogs – Oakland/Clarkston Area
Stiggy’s Dogs rescues and trains shelter dogs to be psychiatric service dogs for military veterans living with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or traumatic brain injuries (TBI). These service dogs are trained at no cost to the veteran. Each dog is individually trained to meet the needs of the veteran.
Capital Area United Way
Capital Area United Way supports tri-county programs and services that address complex health and human service problems. They believe that everyone in the tri-county area deserves opportunities to have a good life, which includes a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health.
Employees raised funds throughout the year with massage days, raffles, dress down days, bake sales, and more.
